In 2017 Will Gill spent the month of November living and working on Fogo Island as part of a creative residency through Fogo Island Arts, an arm of the Shorefast Foundation. Through painting, sculpture, and photography, Gill created a body of work that examined place, necessity, and inventiveness, in an effort to talk about renewal and cycles of change there and elsewhere in a body of work titled From the Lion’s Den. The first edition of this body of work was exhibited with the Christina Parker Gallery in June of 2019.

Matthew Hills, director and curator of the Grenfell Art Gallery in Corner Brook, NL, has curated a fresh approach to the work in a new exhibition currently installed in the Grenfell Art Gallery. Drawing from a resource of photographs that were not previously exhibited and a new sculpture installation that Will Gill created especially for the gallery, Hills has mounted an impactful presentation of the work. We thank Matthew Hills for the installation photographs of the exhibition! Due to present public health and safety concerns, the exhibition at the Grenfell Art Gallery is not presently available for visitation.

We wanted to do a small part to contribute to the wonderful work by Matthew Hills and the installation team at Grenfell and share the exhibition through an online gallery. It is our way of sharing with our gallery patrons, artists and friends.

For information about the book From The Lion’s Den please contact the gallery.

In light of the current situation and with the health and safety of our community in mind, the Christina Parker Gallery will remain closed to the public until further notice. We haven’t gone anywhere and will continue to represent the gallery artists by telephone 709-753-0580 and by email, cpg@nfld.net

It is important to continue to support art and artists, we will keep you informed about news on new work by gallery artists with our upcoming online exhibitions.

We look forward to seeing everyone again at the earliest opportunity.

Be well, take care and stay healthy!
