Steve Payne was born in Harbour Grace. He studied at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute, Toronto, then Memorial University in St. John’s. He has a flourishing commercial photography career in addition to making his own work, which generally is in the documentary tradition. He has exhibited work, including the series Motel and Seas of Leaving, in public and private galleries in Newfoundland, Ontario, and Hong Kong.
